Critics have enjoyed mocking former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s foreign policy assertions when she ran as the GOP vice presidential nominee, but it appears she was right about Russian President Vladimir Putin invading Ukraine.
Speaking at a rally in a Reno, Nev., in October 2008, Palin said, according to Foreign Policy:
After the Russian Army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia’s Putin to invade Ukraine next.
After the collapse of the Ukrainian government last week, Russia gave refuge to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich and moved troops into the Ukraine’s Crimea region. The Russian Parliament voted to approve use of military force in that area Saturday, according to ABC News.
Breitbart News reminded readers that Blake Hounshell, who was writing for Foreign Policy at the time, called Palin’s comments “an extremely far-fetched scenario.”
Palin took to her Facebook page to provide a “told-ya-so,” saying:
Hounshell conceded Friday via Twitter:
Yes, Twitter, Sarah Palin totally called this exact Ukraine scenario 6 years ago….
