Comedic actor’s funny exchange with senator at hearing included the words ‘knocked up’

Seth RogenComedian and actor Seth Rogen added his own unique twist Wednesday to testimony offered before a U.S. Senate hearing on Alzheimer’s disease.

While no laughing matter, Rogen peppered his comments with humor as spoke of his mother-in-law’s battle with Alzheimer’s, and how that prompted him to found an organization to educate young adults about the disease.

“Thank you for the opportunity to testify today and for the opportunity to be called an expert in something, because that’s cool,” Rogen opened. “I don’t know if you know who I am at all, you told me that you never saw ‘Knocked Up’ chairman. So it’s a little insulting.”

The comment was a reference to a romantic-comedy film Rogen starred in.

“I want the record to note that this is the first time, I will wager, this is the first time in any congressional hearing in history that the words ‘knocked up’ have ever been spoken,” U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, interjected as the room broke out in laughter.

The actor then gave a touching statement on his experiences with Alzheimer’s, before telling the subcommittee of another reason he was there, “I’m a ‘House of Cards’ fan; had to be here.”
