Cheney: Obama would much ‘rather spend the money on food stamps’ than our safety

The man liberals love to loathe had harsh words Monday for the military cuts announced by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, telling Fox News host Sean Hannity that President Obama would “rather spend the money on food stamps” than ensure the country’s safety.

“I have not been a strong supporter of Barack Obama, but this is really over the top. It does enormous long-term damage to our military,” former Vice President Dick Cheney said during a telephone interview for the “Hannity” program.

“They act as though it is like highway spending and you can turn it on and off. The fact of the matter is he is having a huge impact on the ability of future presidents to deal with future crises that are bound to arise.”

Hannity noted a recent poll that showed more Americans believe the United States is not respected abroad than those who think it is – a far cry from those heady days of 2008 when the election of the anti-Bush was supposed to improve the image of the United States in the world. Cheney said the view from outside the country is even worse.

“The other thing I know for a fact too, Sean – from keeping in touch with some of my old friends that I used to deal with in the Middle East — they no longer have any confidence at all in American security guarantees,” he said.

“They’re absolutely convinced that they can no longer trust the United States to keep its commitments — that includes the Israelis, Saudis, a lot of others in that part of the world.”

Cheney said domestic politics – rather than some unusually peaceful world – is behind the drive to reduce the American Army to a standing force of 440,000 to 450,00. That’s the smallest it’s been since before World War II.

“I think the whole thing is not driven by any change in world circumstances, it is driven by budget considerations. He would much rather spend the money on food stamps than he would on a strong military or support for our troops.”

If the libs didn’t loathe him already, they would now.
