Secretary of State John Kerry said that “the science is unequivocal” that climate change is possibly “the world’s largest weapon of mass destruction” Sunday, all of which proves that nothing is settled, and the debate is still raging on.
After having totally botched the Iranian nuclear sanctions deal, then failed to strike any accord between the Israeli state and the Palestinian Authority, Kerry jetted off to Indonesia to solve yet another world problem — and he found it in global warming.
He told a gathering of students, civic leaders and government officials in Jakarta that each country must take immediate steps to reduce carbon emissions, at the risk of the planet’s future, according to Fox News.
“We should not allow a tiny minority of shoddy scientists and science and extreme ideologues to compete with scientific facts,” Kerry told his audience at a U.S. Embassy-run facility.
“Nor should we allow any room for those who think that the costs associated with doing the right thing outweigh the benefits.”
He then implied that the time for debate is over and belittled those who insisted on continuing it.
“The science is unequivocal, and those who refuse to believe it are simply burying their heads in the sand,” Kerry said. “We don’t have time for a meeting anywhere of the Flat Earth Society,” he said, before adding “It’s not an exaggeration to say that your entire way of life here is at risk.”
Kerry finally described climate change in the most hyperbolic manner imaginable.
“In a sense, climate change can now be considered the world’s largest weapon of mass destruction, perhaps even, the world’s most fearsome weapon of mass destruction.”
Conservative columnist George Will destroyed Kerry’s premise in just a few sentences during an appearance on Fox News, also on Sunday.
Will cited the medieval warming period and the little ice age on “Fox News Sunday” and and told the panel, “Of course the climate is changing — it’s always changing.”
He then addressed “the debate is over” issue.
“When a politician, on a subject implicating science says, ‘the debate is over,’ you may be sure of two things: the debate is raging and he’s losing it.”
He finally noted that the current debate is “how much wealth are we going to forego creating” to have “zero discernible impact on the environment?”
