In a world that has since brought us child stars like Brittany Spears, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and the hopeless Honey Boo Boo, Shirley Temple Black represented a bygone era of simpler, happier times, and a time when stars grew up with class and dignity and respect for themselves and others.
Her death Monday prompted condolences from a nation who fondly remembered the curly-haired little girl who charmed her way into the hearts of all. A nation who remembered when television entertainment involved tap-dancing and singing, and well, wholesome activities. And a nation who respected her work on behalf of the country as a U.S. ambassador.
