The man who orchestrated President Obama’s 2008 primary win over Hillary Clinton is telling Democrats not to donate to Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Veteran strategist David Axelrod said, donors instead need to focus on the 2014 elections, tweeting Thursday:
With the Senate seriously at risk, and the Koch Brothers spending prodigiously, shouldn’t Dem funders be focused on ’14 and not ’16 races?

With Clinton’s campaign gaining steam, Democrats are concerned her early efforts could hurt midterm election candidates, according to a recent Wall Street Journal report, which said:
The formidable campaign apparatus that has sprung up to support a possible 2016 presidential bid by Hillary Clinton is rattling some Democrats, sparking concerns that it could suppress competition for the party nomination and siphon money from candidates running in the midterm elections this fall.
With Democrats fighting to keep control of the Senate in the midterms, the emergence of the pro-Clinton super PAC Priorities USA could eat into donations that the party’s candidates need to win in November.
Of course, a tweet such as that wouldn’t go unanswered:
@davidaxelrod Real Democrats ARE focused on 2014. Poseurs and grifters aren’t. cc @Priorities2012

@davidaxelrod Yes, but never underestimate the party’s ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
