Murdered cop’s widow working to stop Obama’s Justice Dept. nominee

An attorney for a former death row celebrity convicted of murdering a police officer is President Obama’s nominee to head the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division – and the dead cop’s widow wants to stop it.

Maureen Faulkner, the wide of slain Philadelphia police Officer Daniel Faulkner, is “outraged” that one of the attorneys who got husband’s killer’s death sentence overturned is now being considered for a top government post, according to Fox News.

She’s demanding a chance to testify at confirmation hearings for Debo Adgegbile, a former attorney for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Adgebile represented convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, who spent 30 years on death row in Pennsylvania before his death sentence was commuted to life without parole in 2012.

In the decades he was awaiting execution, Abu-Jamal’s case became an international cause celebre for liberals. The New York Times once called him “perhaps the world’s best known death row inmate,”  and ignorant white college kids wearing “Free Mumia” T-shirts cropped up at  every leftist gathering from the no-nukes rallies of the Reagan years to Code Pink anti-Iraq war protests in the late 2000s.

While Abu-Jamal was on death row, Maureen Faulkner was unflagging in trying to get him executed. Now, she’s trying to stop an attorney who saved her husband’s killer’s life from profiting by it. On Jan. 8, she took her case to a national audience by appearing on Megyn Kelly’s “The Kelly File” on Fox News.

“Officers who knew Danny, and who like him put their lives on the line every day, must now witness Adgebile, a man proud to have chosen to aid the murderer of their friend, singled out for honors and high office by the government of the United States,” she wrote to Senate Judiciary Chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.

“It is an abomination to now reward Mr. Adgebile as if he had done something wonderful.”

Faulkner’s likely not going to stop Adgebile’s confirmation by a Judiciary Committee run by Democrats. That he was nominated at all says volumes about how openly leftist the Justice Department has become under Attorney General Eric Holder.

The Fraternal Order of Police is also protesting Adgebile’s nomination – probably just as fruitlessly.

The Fraternal Order of Police recently sent a letter to Obama opposing Adgebile’s possible appointment.

“This nomination can be interpreted in only one way: it is a thumb in the eye of our nation’s law enforcement officers,” Chuck Canterbury, president of the police group, wrote to the president.

But from an administration with zero respect for the law, it’s about what you’d expect.
