RNC Chair calls for all Republicans to stop MSNBC appearances; demands public apology

MSNBC is learning it’s not enough to delete the tweet.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Thursday demanded a personal and public apology from the president of the leftist network for an offensive tweet Wednesday night that painted conservatives as hostile to the children of interracial couples.

The entire network, Priebus wrote, is “poisoned” by anti-conservative animus.

The tweet, sent out by the network, referred to a new ad for the Cheerios breakfast cereal that reprised an interracial family featured in a spot last year. The new ad, to be aired during the Super Bowl, features the father using Cheerios to tell his daughter she’s going to be getting a baby brother soon.

“Maybe the rightwing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/ biracial family,” the MSNBC tweet stated.

Conservatives, led by columnist Michelle Malkin, the mother of two biracial children exploded into outrage on Twitter, and the network was forced to delete the tweet and apologize in another, unsigned tweet. (See: “MSNBC flayed, forced to apologize over biracial Cheerios ad comment“)

That wasn’t enough for Priebus, though. In a letter to network President Phil Griffin, Preibus said unrelenting – and generally unfounded – attacks by MSNBC on air personalities like Rachel Maddow and Al Sharpton, combined with institutional anti-Republican attitudes demonstrated by Wednesday night’s tweet, have made it impossible for the national Republican Party to cooperate with the network until Griffin owns up to the problem himself.

Priebus wrote:

“Sadly, such petty and demeaning attacks have become a pattern at your network. With increasing frequency many of your hosts have personally denigrated and demeaned Americans – especially conservative and Republican Americans – without even attempting to further meaningful political dialogue.

“While I personally enjoy appearing on decent shows like ‘Morning Joe’ and ‘Daily Rundown,’ the entire network is poisoned because of this pattern of behavior.

“Until you personally and publicly apologize for this behavior, I have banned all staff from appearing on, associating with, or booking any RNC surrogates on MSNBC. I have asked Republican surrogates and officials to follow our lead.”

Considering MSNBC is so far behind Fox News that MSNBC’s and CNN’s ratings combined can’t beat Fox,  the “Hardball” network has more to lose than the GOP from Priebus’s move.

And just like when Priebus called out MSNBC’s parent company, NBC, and CNN over their plans to produce hagiographies for Hillary Clinton just in time for the 2016 presidential race, conservatives can only cheer at the latest example of hardball from the RNC.

In short, it’s about damn time.
