Liberal Dems who want to raise minimum wage pay interns $0, study reveals

The liberal Democrats who want to force American businesses to pay a higher minimum wage are paying their own interns the most minimal wage of all – absolutely nothing.

That’s according to an Employment Policies Institute study that found only 4 percent of lawmakers who support raising the national minimum pay their interns any wage at all, the Daily Caller reported.

The pols who don’t pay include the authors of the bill to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour – Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., according to the Daily Caller.

To no one’s surprise, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, the San Francisco Democrat and staunch supporter of the proletarian class, also pays her interns zilch, according to the Daily Caller. (Check out the video below of a Pelosi interview from 2008 where she squirms trying to explain between her office and McDonald’s. Nice to know some things never change.)

“To cavalierly call for a $10.10 minimum wage while the vast majority do not pay their interns, shows that they are talking out of both sides of their mouth and are not living up to the same standards they expect of others,” said Employment Policies Institute Research Director Michael Saltsman.

The lawmakers didn’t comment for the article, the Daily Caller reported, but their arguments aren’t hard to guess. Interns aren’t getting paid in money, but they’re gaining valuable experience and contacts in the political world, the argument goes.

It apparently doesn’t trouble libs in general – and Democrat lawmakers in particular – that business owners make exactly the same arguments to defend paying their workers the current minimum.

The difference comes down to the libs’ favorite topic these days: class.

Libs don’t mind unpaid labor if it comes from young people whose families can afford to support them while they’re lick envelopes and answer phones in district offices or Washington, D.C.

But when someone else is paying the bills – the owner of a mom and pop business, the local franchise holder of a multinational corporation – Dems want the price to be as high as possible.

But Pelosi et al do have a point about their interns profiting from experience what they don’t make in earnings. They’re getting groomed as the next generation of the political hacks, hypocrites and opportunists.

They’re the Democrats’ future.
