The list of conservatives giving a rebuttal to President Obama’s State of the Union address next week has now grown to three – one for the GOP, one for the tea party and one video response going up Tuesday evening on YouTube.
The GOP announced Thursday the party’s official rebuttal will be delivered by the “top-ranking Republican woman in Congress,” Chair of the House Republican Conference, U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers from Washington.
“I am honored to speak with Americans in every corner of the country on Tuesday and to share our Republican vision for a better future – one that trusts the American people and doesn’t limit where you finish because of where you started,” McMorris Rodgers said, according to Politico.
U.S. Sen. Mike Lee of Utah has been tapped to present the tea party’s response to Obama’s speech and he will speak after the GOP’s rebuttal has aired from the National Press Club.
“For the Tea Party movement, 2014 is not just about taking back the Senate, but it is also about putting forward conservative ideas that will allow for America to prosper. Senator Mike Lee has been both a Tea Party hero for supporters across the nation, and a conservative leader in the Upper Chamber,” Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer said in a statement, obtained by The Hill.
And something a little different this year will come from Kentucky Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul who is prerecording a video rebuttal that will air on YouTube shortly after the president has finished speaking.
According to the Washington Post:
[Paul] will then appear on CNN and Fox News [Tuesday] night and sit for several Sunday show interviews later in the week, all part of his drive to draw attention to his critique.
At the moment, Paul’s top advisers, such as Doug Stafford and Sergio Gor, are focused on broadening Paul’s national reach while simultaneously keeping him close to the GOP’s conservative base, who they hope will share Paul’s video response on social media. Next week’s push will be a multi-platform, multi-faceted effort, a Paul aide said.
The 2014 State of the Union address is Tuesday, January 28 scheduled for 9:00 p.m ET.
