New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo made it clear Friday that if you’re a conservative Republican, you have no business being in New York.

“Their [Republicans] problem isn’t me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves,” Cuomo said on “The Capitol Pressroom” radio show, according to the New York Post.

Cuomo defined the conservative Republican New Yorkers he wanted to send packing.

“Who are they?” he said. “Right-to-life, pro-assault weapons, anti-gay — if that’s who they are, they have no place in the state of New York because that’s not who New Yorkers are.”

Really? If that’s the governor’s wish, he’d be looking to get rid of many patriotic Americans.

In 2009, a Gallup poll found pro-lifers had become the new majority in the United States, and their numbers are growing.

Pro-assault weapons? So any New Yorker who adds a pistol grip and an accessory rail to an ordinary rifle is suddenly persona non grata?

I’m not sure what Cuomo means by “anti-gay.” Conservatives aren’t generally anti-gay so much as they’re anti-gay marriage.

But the real question is, what does his statement mean in the context of “diversity,” a term liberals like to bring up at every opportunity? Cuomo even appointed a diversity officer to his staff just four months ago.

“I am pleased to welcome Mecca Santana to my administration to serve as New York State’s Chief Diversity Officer,” Cuomo said according to the governor’s website. “Ms. Santana will bring more than a decade of public sector experience to the position, and she has a proven track record in working on equal opportunity, civil rights and diversity issues in government. Ms. Santana will be a great asset in our efforts to ensure state government is inclusive and fairly represents the great diversity of New York State.”

Apparently, the governor is all for diversity, as long as everyone is just like him. Figure that one out.

New York Daily News columnist and CNN “Crossfire” co-host S.E. Cupp took to Twitter to express her disgust, saying:

Others wonder what would happen if the tables had been turned — how would the public respond if a conservative governor said he didn’t want any liberal Democrats in his state?

As for chasing away New York’s residents, Cuomo has already gotten the ball rolling.

A 2012 Tax Foundation study found that excessive taxation is causing New Yorkers to leave the Empire State in droves. It reported that New York lost 3.4 million residents in 10 years. Onerous regulation is causing businesses to join the exodus, which continues to this day, much of it to the Sunshine State.

Between taxes and politics, Cuomo will soon have New York taking Wyoming’s place as the least populous state in the nation.
