Free Beacon finds Florida’s Alan Grayson least valuable player in Congress

alan graysonFor some unknown reason, Slates’ David Weigel decided it was a good idea to do an article on U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., endeavoring to present him as “the most effective member of the House.”

While regaling us with a portrait of the new and improved Grayson, who no longer antagonizes his Republican counterparts, Weigel completely overlooked a recent episode where the bombastic congressman compared the tea party to the Ku Klux Klan in a fundraising email.

Instead, we are informed that Grayson is now the “congressman who’s passed more amendments than any of his 434 peers.”

“We’ve passed 31 amendments in committee so far,” Grayson boasts in the article.

But there’s one small problem with this narrative.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, Grayson “has yet to see a single one of his bills pass out of committee since he was elected in November 2012.”

The article further noted:

Grayson has sponsored 44 pieces of legislation during the 113th Congress, more than any other House member, according to the Brookings Institution.

Not a single one of them has reached the floor.

Brookings has a project called “Congressional Moneyball,” which analyzes the productivity of legislators and assigns each member a “batting average,” Free Beacon reported.

Grayson is batting zero.

A result that may prompt Weigel to rethink that whole efficiency angle. After all, reality doesn’t go away if you close your eyes.
