Florida Rep. MaryLynn Magar recovering from mild stroke

Marylynn-Magar-head-shotState Rep. MaryLynn Magar, R-Stuart, suffered a mild stroke while in Tallahassee Wednesday morning. She was released from an area hospital after treatment Saturday, and she will undergo physical therapy over the next several weeks, according to a statement released by her office.

Magar, who was healthy and showed no obvious risk factors associated with strokes, is expected to make a full recovery.

The Stuart legislator will remain in the district and will miss upcoming committee meetings, according to the statement. She plans to keep in close communication with the House speaker, leadership and the chairs of the committees on which she serves.

Magar expects to return to Tallahassee for the start of the 2014 legislative session, which begins March 4.

“I want to thank God for a loving family, a great team of health care professionals, and very supportive colleagues in the State House,” Magar said in the statement. “As I begin this sprint toward recovery, I am already looking forward to my return to Tallahassee.”

She even found some positive in her temporary setback.

“No one wishes for this kind of injury, but God has a plan in all of life, and there is no doubt that I will now be uniquely qualified to understand the struggles of those who deal with much larger disabilities than mine,” she said. “Until then, I appreciate your prayers and support, and look forward to seeing you in service very soon.”

Elected to the Florida House in 2012, Magar serves as majority deputy whip.
