Eric Eisnaugle files to run for state representative in special election

Eisnaugle (640x478)Former Florida state representative Eric Eisnaugle announced Monday that he has filed to run in the special election called for the open seat in House District 44.

Gov. Rick Scott announced the special election last week after state Rep. Steven Precourt, R-Orlando, resigned to accept a position as the head of the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority.

A primary election will be held on March 11, if necessary, followed by the special election on April 8 — at the time of this report, no other candidate has announced plans to run.

“I look forward to knocking on doors and meeting the residents of District 44 where they live,” Eisnaugle said in a statement released on Monday. “My goal is to earn their support with a fiscally conservative message of balanced budgets, lower taxes, and making Florida’s schools safe and successful.”

According to the statement, Eisnaugle is a third-generation Floridian, husband and father of two children. He previously served two terms in the Florida House of Representatives, choosing not to run for a third term when he was drawn into the same seat as a fellow Republican during redistricting.

“As a conservative, I believe government needs to be smaller, more efficient, and should foster private-sector opportunity. I also believe elected officials are there to serve their constituents, not the other way around,” Eisnaugle said in announcing his run. “Those are the values I will fight for every day.”
