CNN anchor Jake Tapper continues to feel the heat from his interview with former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, who took offense to comments Tapper made about his ordeal being “senseless.”
Luttrell is making the media rounds promoting the movie based on his book, “Lone Survivor,” his personal account of a mission gone horribly awry in the mountains of Afghanistan.
Tapper turned to Twitter Saturday to push back, and is finding support from a few surprising sources.

Taking exception to an article published on “The Blaze,” written by Oliver Darcy, who said he suggested “the ‘lone survivor’s’ fellow veterans died for nothing,” Tapper tweeted:
@oliverdarcy don’t think 1st paragraph is accurate. No one said they died for nothing. Are you at all familiar w my reporting on the war?

The exchange prompted The Blaze boss Glenn Beck to engage:
@glennbeck I didn’t “take him on.” I was talking about how I felt watching the movie. The deaths were horrific. Yet the afghans need help.

While talking about his take on the film, Tapper said of the fateful mission: “I don’t mean to disrespect in any way, but it seemed senseless — all of these wonderful people who were killed for an op that went wrong.”
The comment prompted a fierce response from a visibly upset Luttrell.
“So you’re telling me because we were over there doing what we were told by our country, that it was senseless?” the Navy SEAL vet asked. “And my guys, what? They died for nothing?”
Tapper did receive unlikely support from a few notable conservatives, who said the exchange was misinterpreted and pointed to Tapper’s past support for the troops:

OBVIOUS @JakeTapper never said/meant troops die for nothing. Dishonest game of GOTCHA targeting career-troop supporter. Just stop.

The Daily Caller also came to the CNN anchor’s defense, scolding Glenn Beck and saying “Luttrell strangely misinterpreted Tapper’s comments.”
