Once the New Year’s Eve celebrations wind down, news breaks of the first babies born in the new year. But occasionally, there’s a twist.
This year, in two different cities, a mother gave birth to twins, each child born in different years – the last babies delivered in 2013 and the first in 2014.
One set of twins was born in Washington, D.C. — a baby girl on Dec. 31, 2013, at 11:58 p.m., and her twin brother on Jan. 1, 2014, at 12:01 a.m., according to the local Fox affiliate.
“I’m full of joy, energy, unbelievable happiness for this event in my life,” the twins’ father, Warren Begazo, told Fox 5.

The second set of twins was born in Toronto — fraternal twin sisters, with the first arriving on Dec. 31, 2013, at 11:52 p.m., and the younger on Jan. 1, 2014, at 12:00:38 a.m., according to ABCNews.com.
“They kind of got that golden ticket,” the twins’ mother, Lindsay Salgueiro, told ABCNews.com. “They’ve got different birthdays. They’re going to be best friends for life.”
Both the mothers and babies are doing well.
