Reporter slams MSNBC: I defend Snowden like you ‘defend, glorify’ Obama, Dems

The journalist who broke Edward Snowden’s exposure of the National Security Agency’s spying practices took a swipe at MSNBC and its coverage of President Obama and the Democrats.

MSNBC’s Kristen Welker asked Glenn Greenwald what he would say to critics who accuse him of serving as Snowden’s spokesman, since he was one of a few “select” journalists who received information from the infamous leaker.

“That’s ludicrous,” Greenwald said, adding that every journalist has an agenda.

“We’re on MSNBC now, where close to 24 hours a day, the agenda of President Obama and the Democratic Party is promoted, defended, glorified,” he said.  “The agenda of the Republican Party is undermined. That doesn’t mean that the people who appear on MSNBC aren’t journalists. They are.”

Greenwald said his viewpoint has always been clear: He supports Snowden’s actions. He said what he has published has been “accurate and reliable,” with no corrections required.

“I think the point is not so much about MSNBC and what happens here, but more that sometimes when you talk about Edward Snowden, you do defend him, and some people wonder if that crosses a line,” Welker said.

Greenwald hit back.

“Sure, I do defend him, just like people on MSNBC defend President Obama and his officials and Democratic Party leaders 24 hours a day,” he said.

Not everyone on MSNBC does that,Welker said, but some do.
