Krauthammer names his naughtiest and nicest newsmaker of the year

Fox News analyst Charles Krauthammer hit the nail on the head twice Tuesday when he summed up the personalities of 2013, naming Pope Francis to the top of his “nice” list while reserving the “naughtiest” spot for Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Krauthammer, a Jew, said the pope has brought a new spirit to the Catholic Church’s public image, calling the Jesuit pontiff a “symbol of humility and utter humanity” that has universal appeal.

charleskrauthammer1226“That is felt everywhere,” he said.

Krauthammer’s “naughtiest pick” is more haughty than humble.

Sebelius, he said, is “playing Evita to Obama’s el presidente, as they turn American health care into their personal, banana-republic fiefdoms,” Krauthammer said.

For one thing, the Evita comparison might be a little overwrought – in the sense that Madonna’s not going to be playing Sebelius in “Obamacare: the Musical” any time soon. Sebelius also is taking the heat for a lot of things she is not truly responsible for – it was a disastrous Democrat Congress that passed the Obamacare law that made “the Secretary” the ultimate arbiter of health decisions; it was the Obama White House/campaign HQ that delayed important decisions for political reasons that led directly to the train wreck of Obamacare’s rollout.

The Sebelius all of America is growing to despise is mainly a creation of the Obama administration.

She wasn’t Obama’s first pick for the post back in 2008, and if former Sen. Tom Daschle has paid his taxes, she might have spent the rest of her life as a former governor watching the wheat to grow in Kansas. If American voters had not made the truly amazing decision to reject Mitt Romney for an Obama second term, she’d be an historical footnote – Eva Braun with master’s degree.

Still, Sebelius is the willing face of this debacle, the hawk-nosed Cruella DeVille, whose poke face and steely resolve have carried her through one congressional hearing after another, and whose innate arrogance is an ideal complement to the Obama disdain for the democratic process.

And when she got the chance to start pushing people around outside the Sunflower State, she took it hard, and if keeping it means stonewalling Congress and lying to the American public, she’ll be a typical Democrat and do it. Sebelius deserves Krauthammer’s spot.

Check out this video for the rest of the discussion, including Weekly Standards Editor Steven Hayes’ classy – and cutting — put-down of fellow panelist and former NPR host Juan Williams, who seems to show more evidence daily that he belongs back on the administration’s payroll.

Hayes asks Williams a conservative question libs have never been able to answer — and Williams didn’t answer this time either.

It’s worth watching.
