Huckabee on Phil Robertson: ‘God better help him because the network won’t’

“Do you remember when America was a free country?” former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee asked viewers on his Fox News program Saturday evening.

The conservative, Christian, former presidential candidate Huckabee has been very outspoken about the suspension of “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson, and has even started a Facebook petition to ask Americans to Stand with Phil and Support Free Speech.”

“In recent days, a small, but vocal and militant group of same-sex marriage advocates have co-opted religious liberty to force industry and government to go beyond tolerating homosexuality, but to APPROVE it,” he wrote and then reiterated Saturday. “Any deviation from Biblical and traditional marriage is to be embraced, but there is no deviation tolerated from those who want to force acceptance, approval, and activism of same sex marriage.”

Joining Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday,” Huckabee said he was no longer “tolerant of the intolerance:”

And so, what we’ve seen is that there is a new level of bullying of the part of these militant activist groups who if anyone says something that holds to the same position that Barack Obama held in 2008 when he at the Saddleback Church with John McCain, made it very clear that he opposed same sex marriage, and he said he did so he was a Christian and because of his biblical views.

Well, if that position was OK in 2008, how it isn’t OK in 2013 or 2014?

Continuing from his segment on “Huckabee,” he said, “A&E network found a successful formula to save it financially from its original goal of ‘Arts and Entertainment.’ Reality shows have turned it into a cash cow, but none of its shows has ever rocketed it to the stratosphere of green and gold like its most popular show ever, “Duck Dynasty.”

However, the Robertson’s “Christian faith is apparently a little too real for reality TV,” Huckabee said. “You see, they live life “happy, happy, happy,” the audience applauded as he quoted from Robertson’s autobiography title.

“They are not straight-laced snobs or Puritans, but they are people who laugh, they play, and they pray. They reflect a family who loves each other,” he said.

“And they also believe a view of marriage that’s been the standard for all of human history and the norm for Christianity, Judaism and Islam.”

Citing the popularity of other reality shows like “Jersey Shore” and “Cheaters,” Huckabee delivered his scathing conclusion:

“It’s ok for shows to glorify adultery, binge drinking, teen sex and serial promiscuity. But if someone on a reality show should actually reflect the reality of his Christian faith, then God better help him because the network won’t.”
