Syndicated columnist George Will befittingly summarized the controversy surrounding “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson Sunday when he said “the new biggest American entitlement is the entitlement to go through life without being offended.”
The comment cleverly describes the state of political correctness in America today, and prompted Newsbuster’s Noel Sheppard to nominate it as “the best comment of the week” in regard to the “Duck Dynasty” drama.
Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” host Chris Wallace asked Will if political correctness is killing our freedom?

Will replied that the Robertson patriarch’s First Amendment rights “are not in danger,” adding that “this is an argument between him and his employer” and we should “let them sort it out.”
“What we do see here, and this goes to the viewers’ question about political correctness, the new biggest American entitlement is the entitlement to go through life without being offended,” he continued. “People think they have a right not to have their feelings hurt, not to have their sensibilities in any way exacerbated.”
The Pulitzer Prize-winning political commentator referenced Thomas Jefferson, who said it does me no harm if my neighbor believes in 20 gods or one god, it neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. He added that laws do not protect our feelings and suggested “people just have to get over it.”
Preach it, Brother Will!
