See which nine senators voted for the controversial budget deal

The two-year budget deal brokered by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., and Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray, D-Alaska, passed the Senate Wednesday by a vote of 64-36, with nine Republicans aligning with Democrats.

paulryan1215All 55 members of the Democratic conference voted together for the bill, but some say Ryan misled Republicans about the plan’s savings, according to Breitbart News. The bill passed the House last week 332-94, with 62 Republicans voting against it.

Here are the Republicans who crossed over to vote with Democrats:

  • John McCain, Ariz.
  • Orrin Hatch, Utah
  • Saxby Chambliss, Ga.
  • Johnny Isakson, Ga.
  • Susan Collins, Maine
  • Lisa Murkowski, Alaska
  • Ron Johnson, Wisc.
  • John Hoeven, N.D.
  • Rob Portman, Ohio

Ryan used fuzzy math to promote the bill, according Breitbart, which reported:

Ryan used a series of misleading styles of accounting and talking points to promote the bill, especially when it came to veterans’ pensions. He claimed the bill overall reduced the deficit by $23 billion. In reality, the bill increases the deficit by at least $15.5 billion.

Most of these faults in the accounting and the inaccuracies in Ryan’s talking points did not become apparent until after the House voted for the plan.

“This agreement isn’t everything I’d hoped it would be, and it isn’t what I would have written,” Hatch said in a statement Monday, according to USA Today. “But sometimes the answer has to be yes.”
