Barbara Walters: We thought Obama ‘was going to be the next messiah’

Fox News host Sean Hannity and talk radio’s Rush Limbaugh have received a lot of criticism for referring to Barack Obama as “The Messiah,” a sarcastic take on how some in the media view the president.

Little did we know that the media really does see Obama as a messiah — at least ABC News’ Barbara Walters did, Newsbusters reported.

During an appearance Tuesday on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Live,” while talking about the opposition President Obama faces, Walters had the temerity to say:

“We thought that he [Obama] was going to be – I shouldn’t say this at Christmastime, but – the next messiah.”

An incredible statement considering Walters stature, and while we can’t be sure if Walters had a mouse in her pocket at the time, we must assume the “we” she refers to is the media at large.

As for the timing of her confession, she expressed concern about Christmas, but Newsbusters pointed out other damnable coincidences:

Quite a thing to say on the very day a new poll found this president having the lowest approval rating of any since Nixon.

It’s also worth noting that this came the day after the Washington Post said Obama was responsible for three of the top ten biggest Pinocchios of the year, and five days after PolitiFact awarded him the Lie of the Year.

Walters, 83, did show some grasp of reality when she managed to acknowledge that things haven’t quite worked out as hoped.

“And the whole ObamaCare, or whatever you want to call it, the Affordable Health Act, it just hasn’t worked for him, and he’s stumbled around on it, and people feel very disappointed because they expected more,” she added.

Not that Walters has given up hope, saying Obama has several years to go to make “a lot of changes.”
