State spends $300 million to sign up 44 people for Obamacare

Despite receiving $300 million to implement the health insurance exchange program, one state has enrolled only 44 people in Obamacare, to the tune of $6.8 million per person.

A Department of Health and Human Services report released Wednesday  ranks Oregon’s enrollment numbers the lowest in the nation.

The Democratic state received the third highest federal allotment, $300 million – behind the more populated New York and California. Oregon officials also wholeheartedly supported Obamacare, even making a music video to promote the program, according to the Washington Examiner.

But the Cover Oregon program suffered the same rollout problems encountered: Initially the website didn’t work, and people were forced to use paper applications, the Washington Examiner reported.

Oregon’s results undermine the Obama administration narrative that state exchanges are doing better than the national program and that poorly performing states are controlled by anti-Obamacare Republican governors.
