The Girl Scouts of America decided that using a “homo punk” band front man as its own front man probably doesn’t convey the wholesome image that the 101-year-old organization wants.
The iconic girls’ organization has removed the name of Joshua Ackley, The Dead Betties’ lead singer, as its chief media spokesman, Breitbart News reported.
Ackley has been with the Girl Scouts’ communication department since 2008, and began blogging for them the following year. In that capacity, he directly answered girls seeking news and advice about the organization.
Since then, he had elevated himself to a senior press spokesman position — the voice of the Girl Scouts.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, Ackley refused earlier this year to disassociate the Girl Scouts from the Ball Global Youth Forum Declaration of December 2012, which supports “sexual rights” and abortion for the world’s youth, and decries parental consent and “age of consent” restrictions.
After news of Ackley’s night job with a “homo punk” band was reported, parents began complaining and he no longer blogs or represents the Scouts.

The Girl Scout media team now includes Karen Parisi, who used to work for the Ms. Foundation, one of the most influential abortion advocacy groups in America. Her new counterpart is Stewart Goodbody, who comes from a career in public relations and issue advocacy.
The Girl Scouts informed Breitbart News that Ackley remains with the organization in its communications department.
