President Obama on Thursday contradicted his original angry reaction to the news that the IRS was targeting conservative groups, seeming bewildered that “suddenly everybody’s outraged” over the flap.
An interview with MSNBC host Chris Matthews was supposed to be an Obamacare infomercial, conducted at American University to convince young people to embrace the deeply-flawed program, according to The Daily Caller.
But the pair drifted off the Obamacare script when Matthews wondered why Americans were becoming wary of government. Obama blamed a media industry that’s all too ready to report government’s failings, but “when we do things right, they don’t get a lot of attention.”
Then the president brought up the IRS’s habit of targeting conservative groups.
“If, on the other hand, you’ve got an office in Cincinnati, in the IRS office that, I think for bureaucratic reasons, is trying to streamline what is a difficult law to interpret about whether a nonprofit is actually a political organization deserves a tax exempt agency,” he said. “And they’ve got a list, and suddenly everybody’s outraged.”

And yet, in May, the president appeared genuinely angry about the practice. Instead of suggesting the IRS was trying to streamline a hazy law, he called the agency’s actions “inexcusable,” according to CNN.
“Americans have a right to be angry about it, and I’m angry about it,” Obama said. “It should not matter what political stripe you’re from. The fact of the matter is, the IRS has to operate with absolute integrity.”
This flip-flopping is typical of Obama’s administration.
The president has expressed outrage and a commitment to get to the bottom of Fast and Furious, Benghazi, widespread snooping by the National Security Agency and the Justice Department’s targeting of Associated Press and Fox News reporters. A week later, they’re tossed into the dustbin of phony scandals.
