As hard as it may be to imagine such a thing is possible, reports are blowing in the wind that uber-hip singer-songwriter Bob Dylan is being sued for racism.

A Croatian community association in France is suing Dylan and the French version of Rolling Stone magazine for comments he made during an interview back in September, Business Insider reported.

When asked if he sees parallels between Civil War-era America and today, the iconic rocker said “the United States burned and destroyed itself for the sake of slavery,” adding that it had to be “ripped out with force. A lot of killing… a lot of destruction to end slavery.”

Obama gets blasted for suggesting the will of the people is his ‘biggest barrier’

Dylan makes the unbelievable claim that if some white people had their way, slavery would still exist. But it was when he referenced Serbs and Croatians that the Croatian group took offense.

The offending statement:

“This country is just too f***** up about color. It’s a distraction. People at each other’s throats just because they are of a different color… Blacks know that some whites didn’t want to give up slavery – that if they had their way, they would still be under the yoke, and they can’t pretend they don’t know that. If you got a slave master or Klan in your blood, blacks can sense that. That stuff lingers to this day. Just like Jews can sense Nazi blood and the Serbs can sense Croatian blood.”

Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up.

Working against Dylan is that Europe’s free speech laws are much stricter than in the U.S., according to the report. It’s not like a hard rain’s a-gonna fall should Dylan and the magazine be found guilty, but they would face a fine and formal sanction.
