Story of waitress stiffed for being gay a ‘fraud,’ diners say

“It’s a fraud, it’s a scam.”

That was how a New Jersey man described the story of a waitress who became a cause celebre among gay activists and their gullible media allies when she claimed to have been stiffed for a tip by customers who don’t approve of her being gay.

According to NBC4 in New York, the couple that dined at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J., has come forward with a receipt and credit card bill proving they not only didn’t leave a note saying they didn’t agree with her lifestyle, they’d left the standard 20 percent tip for the meal.

The story of waitress Dayna Morales has made national news since she posted a receipt on her Facebook page in mid-November showing a receipt from one of her customers saying, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because do not agree with your lifestyle.”

The interview request came flooding in – and so did the donations. According to NBC4, sympathizers from around the world sent money to Morales, business boomed at the bistro, and patrons even turned up at the restaurant to drop off cash even without eating a meal.

The married couple (a man and a woman) who saw the original report and Morales’s Facebook posting knew the whole thing was a sham. While they asked the station not to identify them, they said their name matches the name on the receipt that was redacted in the news report.

The dates and times match. What doesn’t match is the handwriting on the note and the handwriting of the wife, who signed the bill. “She’s doctored up our check,” the wife said.

And their copy of the receipt – and a Visa credit card bill – shows they left a tip. And didn’t leave a note about Morales being gay or anything else.

“It’s a disgusting thing to do, to write that,” the husband said. “The restaurant profited from this. Obviously, Dayna’s profiting from this. It’s a fraud. It’s a scam.”

The restaurant owner interviewed off camera couldn’t offer any explanation for how the couple might have been billed by Visa for a tip they allegedly didn’t leave – after first suggesting the couple were the ones who were doctoring the paperwork.

Morales is sticking by her stiffing story, and says she doesn’t know who’s handwriting is on the note she claims came from the couple.

And the former Marine also claims all the money that has come in – close to $3,000 — will be donated to the Wounded Warriors Project – a decade-old charity that assists wounded veterans.

Morales is still waiting tables at the Bistro Gallop, according to NBC4.

The couple – who think the whole misunderstanding started when Morales got offended because they thought they waiter would be named “Dan” rather than “Dayna” and took a joke the husband made as some kind of homophobic slur — won’t be eating there anymore.

“There’s enough hate and intolerance in the world,” the wife said.

So is a story that seemed like a perfect way for gay activists to show how intolerant straight America is really just a sham? Watch the NBC4 report, and decide for yourself.
