Tough Fla. AG Pam Bondi takes ‘Fox Files’ on synthetic drug raid

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has made it her mission to fight the spread of synthetic drugs, quickly banning new compounds hitting the streets.

On a “Fox Files” report Saturday, Bondi said she first heard of synthetic drugs in a letter from a local sheriff, not long after she was sworn into office.

“Two months into office, I got one from Sheriff [Frank] McKeithen in Bay County, a small county in the Panhandle,” Bondi told “Fox Files” host Heather Nauert. “And he started talking about this thing called bath salts, and I had never heard of it. And he said, ‘These things are a hallucinogenic. Kids think they can fly.’ And he was scared to death because spring break was coming up, and you have got teenagers in high rises who are hallucinating.”

Bondi took action immediately, according to Fox News.

“I can’t let another child overdose,” the attorney general said. “I called the sheriff the next morning and he drove three hours straight over to my office. And we sent two FDLE [Florida Department of Law Enforcement] agents into the Tallahassee Mall. They bought this stuff legally. They took it back to the lab, they tested it, and they said, ‘Pam, this is synthetic heroin, LSD, acid.’”

Bondi issued an executive order making the substances illegal in 2011 and has outlawed more than 127 compounds since.

Nauert went on a raid with Bondi to a convenience store in Zephyrhills, where officers confiscated over 200 packets of “Spice,” a popular brand of synthetic marijuana, according to the Fox News report.
