President Barack Obama inexplicably decided to be a no-show at the 150-year anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, but he was still able to recite Lincoln’s iconic speech for a Ken Burns documentary — well most if it anyway. He left out the words “under God.” Oops.
Burns recorded videos of all living presidents, as well as other noted politicians, journalists, dignitaries and even Hollywood luminaries reciting the 272 words that comprise the address (well, 270 words in Obama’s case).
He then spliced together snippets from each to create a video collage of the entire Gettysburg address to celebrate its anniversary, according to WMAL’s Chris Plante Show.
WMAL reported:
The dignitaries all delivered the address as Lincoln had written it, including the phrase, “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom.” Curiously, however, in his version of the address, President Obama omitted the words “under God.”
Listen to the video’s other participants use the phrase “under God” here.
Watch the president’s recitation of the Gettysburg address below. His mistake comes at the 1:35 mark. Video from Breitbart News.
