Florida GOP mocks Biden, DWS Panama trip as ‘a little late to the party’

A man, a plan, a canal – Joe Biden!

The Florida Republican Party on Monday issued a release mocking the  vice president’s heavily hyped trip to Panama today to discuss the widening of the Panama Canal, noting that Gov. Rick Scott has been working to prepare the state for larger shipments through the canal since he took office.

joebidendwsnewBiden’s trip to the canal, accompanied by big-city Democrats like Michael Nutter of Philadelphia, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake of Baltimore, and Kasim Reed of Atlanta – as well as big-mouth Democrats like U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida – has generated news releases around the country.

Most of those releases are touting the local-boy in the Big Leagues angle – “VP Biden Invites Nutter to Tour Panama Canal Expansion” from the website Philly in Focus, for example. By contrast, the RPOF uses a release titled “A little late to the party” to make fun of Biden and Wasserman Schultz for boldly going where Scott has gone before.

“Today Vice President Joe Biden and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz are traveling to Panama to talk about the Panama Canal expansion and its importance to Florida’s economy,” it begins.

“Better late than never, right?”

Scott has been pushing Panama Canal expansion preparation for Florida’s ports from his swearing-in, the release notes.

“Since taking office, Governor Scott has been a champion for Florida’s ports, investing $38 million into JAXPORT’s Mile Point Project and $75 million into PortMiami’s dredging project,” the RPOF release states.

“:Governor Scott understands the economic impact of the expansion of the canal and Florida’s ports, which is why he put up the state funds instead of waiting for the federal government to make good on its end of the promise.”

In the release, RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry turns the subject to the train-wreck rollout of Obamacare.

“While Democrats in Washington like Joe Biden and Debbie Wasserman Schultz have been covering for the president’s dishonesty when he said ‘if you like your insurance plan, you can keep it,’ Governor Scott has remained laser-focused on Florida’s economy, including Florida’s many ports and the expansion of the Panama Canal.”
