If this video is any indication, the Affordable Care Act is making the students at Maryland’s traditionally black Bowie State University re-think their 2012 presidential vote.
Bowie State students had been provided with health insurance for a nominal $50 per semester, but they’re now finding themselves in the same boat as millions of policyholders who had their plans cancelled, according to Campus Reform.
That $50 premium has since skyrocketed to $900 per semester, making students hopping mad.
Bowie State should be an enclave of die-hard Obama supporters, given that 91 percent of its student body is black, according to College Prowler.
Obama won 95 percent of the black vote in 2008 and 66 percent of the youth vote, according to Pew Research.
In 2012, he still did well in those key categories, snatching 93 percent of the black vote and 60 percent of the youth vote, according to Atlantic Wire.
None of that seems to matter now that Obamacare is being implemented. All the students in the video said they can’t afford the premium hikes, and they’re all blaming the current occupant of the White House.
When asked what he will do, one student said he will make sure to “not get sick,” which, ironically, is reminiscent of a line U.S. Rep. Akan Grayson, D-Fla., used on the House floor to describe the GOP plan when the Affordable Care Act was being debated.
“The Republican health care plan: Don’t get sick,” Grayson said, according to the Huffington Post. “The Republicans have a backup plan in case you do get sick … This is what the Republicans want you to do. If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly!”
With the president losing his core blocs of voters, it’s a good thing for him that he doesn’t have to worry about another election.
