Mark Wahlberg’s latest movie premiered without controversy – until he spoke out during a post-movie question-and-answer session, releasing an emotional rant against comparisons of acting to serving in the military.
“For actors to sit there and talk about, ‘Oh I went to SEAL training, and I slept on the’ — I don’t give a f*** what you did,” Wahlberg said in a video interview following the screening of “Lone Survivor.” “You don’t do what these guys did.”
Wahlberg was referring to reports that Tom Cruise had compared acting to serving in Afghanistan, statements Cruise has since said were taken out of context, according to TMZ.
In “Lone Survivor,” Wahlberg portrays Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell who engaged in a bloody, dangerous mission in Afghanistan with two other SEALS. Luttrell was onstage with Wahlberg during the session with reporters.
Wahlberg said he admired the man he portrayed in the movie.
“I trained for four and a half years and I was ‘The Fighter’ and … f*** all that,” Wahlberg said. “It really means nothing. I love Marcus for what he’s done and I’m a very lucky guy to do what I do and I’m proud to have been part of it, but it’s just so much bigger than what I do.”
