The Republican Party of Florida wasted little time Wednesday hitting back at Republican-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist for Crist’s ludicrous statement Tuesday comparing the governor of Florida to a murdering hoodlum.
“The fact that Charlie Crist is resorting to political attacks that invoke criminals just goes to show how desperate he is to cover up his record of job losses, higher debt and economic failure,” RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry said in a statement.
Crist didn’t just stop at comparing Rick Scott to a criminal, but also said criminals weren’t fit to be governor – unless they happen to be governor of the home state of President Obama.
Maybe party switching makes it easy to get parties confused, since Crist was criticizing Scott for invoking his constitutional rights as an American citizen not to testify during a federal investigation of the Columbia/HCA hospital chain for fraud – fraud that Scott has acknowledged took place without his knowledge, and was never tied to Scott personally.
“People like Al Capone do that,” Crist said, according to the Tampa Bay Times. “And they definitely don’t get to be governor. The governor of Illinois maybe, but not Florida.”
Governors of Illinois do have a tendency to get locked up – four of the last nine have gone to prison. They also have a tendency to be Democrats, as three of those four were.
The most recent entry in the honor roll was Rod Blagojevich, the Democrat governor who went to prison for trying to sell the Democrat Senate seat that used to be held by Democrat Barack Obama.
And now-Democrat Charlie Crist wants compare a Republican governor with a record in office of bringing down the state’s unemployment rate and fostering economic growth with a thug from Illinois?
Illinois used to be the Land of Lincoln – the first Republican president.
Al Capone built his criminal organization on the same ground Chicago Democrats built their machine. The last governor of Illinois was a Democrat who tried to sell the Democrat seat held by a Democrat president-elect.
If Crist wants to talk about thuggery in politics, he doesn’t need to look far beyond the party he’s now trying to lead in Florida.
Here’s how Curry finished his statement:
“It’s another opportunistic move from a career politician who has a history of lousy judgment when it comes to his own decisions and the people he surrounds himself with.”
They’re not Republicans.
