Author Justin Doolittle apparently felt Veterans Day would be a good time to tell those in the U.S. military how incredibly ungrateful he is for their service.
In an editorial published on Monday by Salon.com, “Stop thanking the troops for me: No, they don’t “protect our freedoms!,” Doolittle zeroes in on a comment made by a player as part of an “NBA Cares” promo:
They’re protecting our country, they’re protecting the world, and, you know, obviously we wouldn’t have freedom without them.
Exposing his far left, anti-military views, Doolittle attempts to debunk the statement with this argument: “If John Lennon’s ghost assumed dictatorial control of the U.S. government tomorrow and, as his first order of business, disbanded the entire military, Americans’ ‘freedoms’ would not suddenly vanish.”
An argument that is technically correct, just as it’s correct to say that if your heart was instantaneously ripped out of your chest, you live on for another 10-15 seconds.

Typical of the far left, Doolittle twists reality to fit his ill-fated argument, speaking of the “widely held belief, that our freedom is bestowed on us by soldiers.”
“Americans remain thankful to their military for ‘protecting’ the freedom which God bestows, not granting it,” National Review’s Alec Torres wrote in response to the article.
Doolittle goes on to complain about professional sports constantly jamming military fervor down our throats. A sentiment that suggests there’s an ongoing campaign by the left to target the relationship between sports and the military.
A campaign that saw a professor at the University of Maryland last week call the Star Spangled Banner a “war anthem,” saying the practice of playing the song before sports events should be discontinued.
