Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin praised the failed effort to defund Obamacare, saying Republicans who voted against it threw the good guys “under the bus.”
Palin was speaking Saturday at the Faith and Freedom Coalition fall banquet in Iowa, headlined by U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, an instrumental leader in the unsuccessful push to defund Obamacare. Palin supported the effort and criticized the Republicans who didn’t.
“They promised that they would do everything in their power to fight against socialized medicine, against Obamacare, but when it came time to stand and defund it, they waved the white flag of surrender and they threw under the bus the good guys who did stand up and fight for us,” Palin said, according to the Des Moines Register.
Palin also promoted her new book, describing it as a call to action to protect the spirit of Christmas and the constitutionally protected freedom of faith. The book, “Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas,” includes a few family stories — and her moose chili recipe.
“So often, the people who are too enlightened for religion, or church, are the very same people who have a zealot-like faith in their own church, the church of big government,” she said Saturday. “What’s that done for you lately?”
The church of big government knows best when it comes to Obamacare, and that “silly Iowans didn’t really like that health plan anyway,” she added.
Palin blasted the Obama administration for growing poverty, increasing unemployment, ballooning the national debt and exacerbating a bad economy.
“If you like your government, you can keep your government,” she said, challenging those in the audience to make their voices heard, and do something to make a change.
