
Two British soldiers were shot dead by an Afghan policeman mere seconds after one of them posed for a photograph with the killer.
Corporal Brent McCarthy, 25, is seen pictured with a member of the Afghan Uniformed Police just moments before the shooting, according to the Daily Mail. Lance Corporal Lee Davies, 27, who can be seen sitting in the background of the photo, was also shot dead.
The Afghan policeman and an accomplice turned their weapons on the two just after the photo was taken. He was shot dead by a British guardsman as he tried to flee the scene, said the Mail.

As reported by the Mail, both soldiers were part of an eight-man team who had gone to the Afghan police base in the Lashkar Gah district of Helmand province on May 12 — the patrol had gone there so British officers could meet with local police officials. Cpl. McCarthy was acting as a specialist adviser.
Attacks of this nature are called “green on blue” attacks. CBS News reported last September that “Afghan government troops — our allies — turned their guns on NATO forces 36 times” in 2012, killing 51, most of them Americans.
The problem was so pervasive that the U.S. military suspended most joint field operations with Afghan forces because so many Americans are being killed by the men they are training.
