One almost expected to hear U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, say “I see your eight minute standing ovation, Ted, and I raise it to ten minutes.”
At a rally Saturday in Salt Lake City, supporters welcomed Lee with a 10 minute ovation — technically, it was a standing ovation as there were no seats.
Lee is seen as a close ally of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who received an eight minute standing ovation in his home state following the effort to defund Obamacare. Taking heavy fire from within their own party, Lee stood should to shoulder with Cruz throughout that effort.
Amid chants of “We like Mike,” residents let him know how they felt about those efforts. The senator tried to speak within two minutes, but the crowd would have none of it as they continued cheering.
During the applause, Lee said, “It’s great to be back in America!” and “I think they can hear us in Washington!” according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
At the 10-minute mark, the Tribune reported, Lee said, “I just heard from Ted Cruz in Texas and he says ‘Utah wins.’”
A feel good moment for those who have the courage and the commitment to put principle first.
