Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” co-host Greg Gutfeld on Friday debunked a study released earlier this week that claims racism and guns go together.
The study by researchers in Australia and England looked at how racism among whites and gun ownership is linked, and found that the odds are greater that a racist white American also keeps a gun at home and opposes gun control regulations.
“Some foreign researchers published a study saying that owning a gun makes you racist,” Gutfeld said.
He then pointed to a quote from Monash researcher Kerry O’Brien, according to the New York Daily News:
“There had already been research showing that … blacks are more likely to be shot, so we thought there must be something happening between the concept of being black and some whites wanting guns.”
“Idiotic,” Gutfeld declared. “Somehow Kerry manages not to finish his thought. Blacks are more likely to be shot — by other blacks. Over 91 percent of blacks are murdered by other blacks and 84 percent of whites are murdered by other whites. So even the premise is false.”
To show just how idiotic the study is, it states:
“It is particularly noteworthy that the relationship between symbolic racism and the gun-related outcomes was maintained in the presence of conservative ideologies, political affiliation, opposition to government control and being from a southern state, which are otherwise strong predictors of gun ownership and opposition to gun reform.”
After pointing out that legal gun ownership benefits blacks living in high-crime areas, Gutfeld said: “Left-wing efforts to impose large fees on gun ownership have resulted in hefty price tags to register unlicensed guns in cities like D.C. or Chicago, making guns a luxury for the rich and the white.”
“So, who’s racist now?” he concluded.
