Obamacare drives up small business owner’s healthcare premiums by 400%

While acknowledging the number of Americans who have had their insurance policies canceled or told it has to change has reached “almost 2 million,” NBC reporter Lisa Myers took a close look at the impact this is having on small businesses.

Myers profiles George Schwab of North Carolina, who was “perfectly happy” with the plan he and his wife had with Blue Cross Blue Shield for just $228 a month, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

But like so many others, Schwab received a letter last month saying his policy was no longer available.

The “comparable” plan offered to him carried a $1,208 monthly premium and a $5,500 deductible, the Free Beacon reported. The best option he’s found on the exchange so far offered a 415 percent jump in premium, to $948 a month.

“The deductible is less,” Schwab said, “But the plan doesn’t meet my needs. Its unaffordable.”

So much for the “Affordable” Care Act.

“I’m sitting here looking at this, thinking we ought to just pay the fine and just get insurance when we’re sick,” Schwab added.

The incredible irony in that statement being the very real possibility that fewer Americans will end up with health insurance because of a law that was enacted to ensure more Americans have coverage.

“Everybody’s worried about whether the website works or not, but that’s fixable,” Schwab told NBC. “That’s just the tip of the iceberg. This stuff isn’t fixable.”
