‘Told you so’ moment as libs see light on Obamacare flaws

obamacare-going-to-hurtThe Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate doesn’t go into effect until 2014, and already liberals are belly-aching over the law’s disastrous impact — on their own lives.

While complaints continue to mount over glitches plaguing the defective HealthCare.gov website, hundreds of thousands of people are discovering deeper flaws resulting in excessive consumer costs for coverage they don’t want, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“This is when the actual sticker shock comes into play for people,” Gerald Kominski, director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, told the Times. “There are winners and losers under the Affordable Care Act.”

Few are crying louder than those who heralded Obamacare’s passage. Patti Davis, liberal daughter of the late President Ronald Reagan, tweeted:

The irony wasn’t lost on others:

Reagan was one of the earliest opponents of socialized medicine and spoke of its dangers long before Obamacare. Davis didn’t listen.

According to the Times, the middle class, the backbone of American society, is being particularly hard hit.

The Times reported this example:

Fullerton resident Jennifer Harris thought she had a great deal, paying $98 a month for an individual plan through Health Net Inc. She got a rude surprise this month when the company said it would cancel her policy at the end of this year. Her current plan does not conform with the new federal rules, which require more generous levels of coverage.

Now Harris, a self-employed lawyer, must shop for replacement insurance. The cheapest plan she has found will cost her $238 a month. She and her husband don’t qualify for federal premium subsidies because they earn too much money, about $80,000 a year combined.

“It doesn’t seem right to make the middle class pay so much more in order to give health insurance to everybody else,” Harris said. “This increase is simply not affordable.”

Not affordable? But isn’t this the Affordable Care Act? One problem lies in the law’s attempt to shoehorn everyone into a “one size fits all” plan that doesn’t necessarily fit.

Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume educated liberal pundit Juan Williams on that fact on “Fox News Sunday.”

“They’re going to offer a government-mandated deal that may or may not be a better deal for the people involved.” he said. “They’re elderly people being required to pay for maternity coverage.”

Economist and author Thomas Sowell noted a more basic reason for the price increase.

“It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals and medication somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medication and a government bureaucracy to administer it,” he said.
