When selling the Affordable Care Act to the American people, President Barack Obama repeatedly promised that if you like your current insurance plan, you can keep it. Period.
That promise has clearly been broken and U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., will propose a new law next week to amend Obama’s signature healthcare law so that it will “live up to the promises of the politicians who sold the plan to the American public.”
The bill is called: “If You Like Your Health Plan, You Can Keep It Act.”
In a statement released by his office Friday, Johnson said: “More than a million Americans have been notified that the plans they like with the coverage they have chosen have been canceled. Millions more Americans will have the plans of their choice canceled in months to come.”
While the statement is short on details, the bill is expected to allow insurers to continue offering plans they now offer, which often include lower premiums for younger and healthier consumers — Obamacare’s rules, now in effect, do not allow for these type plans, as explained by The Weekly Standard’s James C. Capretta.
“Americans want the freedom to choose their own plans and want to be in control of their own health care,” Johnson said. “They don’t want Obamacare destroying what they have and what they like. They don’t want their personal choices regarding their health plans and their families’ health plans canceled by Obamacare.”
