Jeb Bush: GOP lacks alternative healthcare plan, ‘self-restraint’

Jeb BushAs former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush continues to position himself for a possible 2016 presidential run, he advised Republicans on Sunday to exercise a “bit of self-restraint” when opposing Obamacare.

In an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Bush had likely opponent U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, in sight when he criticized the tactics which led to the government shutdown.

“Tactically it was a mistake to focus on something that couldn’t be achieved,” Bush said.

“Obamacare, flawed to its core, doesn’t work,” Bush added. “So have a little bit of self-restraint. It might actually be a politically, a better approach to see the massive dysfunction.”

An easy forecast to make with the luxury of looking in the rear-view mirror at the dismal results of the Oct.1 launch of the marketplaces central to the Affordable Care Act.

“But we don’t even hear about that because we’ve stepped on that message,” Bush continued. “And I think Republicans need to just take a step back and show a little self-restraint and let this happen a little more organically.”

Never mind that a complicit media will obscure that message regardless, as is happening now with the cataclysmic failure of the government website to enroll in health insurance — a major story in that the Obama administration had over three years to get it right that’s only seeing cursory coverage.

Bush does offer one bit of advice that rings true, saying, “I think the best way to repeal ObamaCare is to have an alternative; we never hear the alternative.”

But then, if government cannot build a functioning web site in three years, how can we expect the Republican Party to offer up an alternative healthcare plan in just 5 years.
