MoveOn.org seeks to arrest GOP leaders

Now that the government shutdown has been resolved and the default on the debt averted, liberal groups are turning their attention to trying to get Republican leaders arrested and tried for “the crime of seditious conspiracy.”

Even liberal attorney Alan Dershowitz called the move irresponsible.

MoveOn PetitionThe effort was launched on the MoveOn.org Petitions website and will be delivered to President Barack Obama and the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.

The petition says that use of the Hastert rule to “shut down the government and threaten the U.S. economy” was an act of seditious conspiracy and the perpetrators should be “brought to justice.”

The petition statement says:

I call on the Justice Department of the United States of America to arrest Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Speaker of the House John Boehner, and other decision-making House Republican leaders for the crime of seditious conspiracy against the United States of America.

There are 31,830 signatures so far on the site, which says it hopes to get 40,000.

Fox News’ “The Kelly File” host asked Dershowitz Thursday what he thought of the effort.

“I can’t wait to defend them!” Dershowitz said of the GOP leadership. “MoveOn is an absolutely irresponsible organization. They are the mirror left-wing image of the most extreme people on the right and their idea of trying to criminalize policy differences is absolutely absurd and irresponsible.”

Kelly said she thought that as a liberal Democrat, Dershowitz was supposed to like MoveOn.

“I hate MoveOn because they’re a bunch of radicals,” Dershowitz said. “They are not liberals. They are not tolerant of differences. I am a centrist liberal, and I get along very well with centrist conservatives.”
