CNN anchor Ashleigh Banfield actually laughed and asked, “What are you talking about?” when U.S. Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., compared some Republicans to members of the Confederate Army Tuesday.
Rangel asserted that the inability of Congress to reach a deal is the result of “a handful” of GOP lawmakers who “want to bring down our government” whose tactics are the same used when “they fought as confederates.”
“Whoa!,” Banfield interrupted him. “I’m sorry. Are you likening — and I’m only assuming that you’re referring to the tea party members who are pretty intransigent on their views — are you liking them to Confederates?”
Rangel explained, “when you see where they’re coming from,” and referred to “Dixiecrats” who switched to the GOP, Banfield interjected and said, “Michele Bachmann is not from Dixie! What are you talking about?” then laughed.
