A Nebraska high school principal is now finding himself in “agua caliente” for doing something President Obama has been accused of doing for two weeks now. He cancelled a favored, patriotic display that costs nothing to continue by citing “government shutdown.” In this case, it wasn’t a national monument but the daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Alliance High School principal Patrick Jones is now under investigation by district superintendent Troy Unzicker, who said disciplinary action “has to be considered” after Jones shut down the pledge on Monday, Oct. 7, according to The Blaze.
“We have board policy that says we will lead students in the pledge each day and we will be doing that,” he said.
Although Jones declined to comment, according to Unzicker, Jones claimed that he decided to delete the pledge from that day’s activities to prompt a dialogue on the country’s government shutdown within the student body.
And talk about the government they did, the superintendent confirmed.
“There were some positive aspects that came out of it, but (skipping the pledge) is not something we will do again,” Unzicker said, according to an Associated Press report.
Unzicker also confirmed that the school received some complaints from parents.
