Reporter corners Obama: Why refuse bills that would ease shutdown pain?

With jaw-dropping disregard for the evidence of the past five years – and even the past four months – President Obama used a news conference Tuesday to try to paint himself as the defender of the integrity of law and champion of small business in the United States.

And virtually none of it was true.

obamapresser1009bigAsked point-blank by CBS Radio’s Mark Knoller why he and Senate President Harry Reid keep refusing House Republican bills that would use a piecemeal approach to easing the impact of the government shutdown on various groups — small businesses, veterans, kids in Head Start.

Why can’t Obama go along? Knoller asked.

Obama said he’s “tempted,” but that would just be playing politics. And Obama wants people to think he’s above playing politics.

“Wherever Republicans are feeling political pressure, they put a bill forward, and if there’s no political heat — no television story on it — then nothing happens. If we do some sort of shotgun approach like that, then you’ll have some programs that are highly visible get funded and re-opened, like national monuments, but things that don’t get a lot of attention, like those SBA loans not being funded.

“We don’t get to select which programs we implement or not,” he said.

So much misinformation in so few words.

Obama says Republicans only put bills forward because of media pressure, but where’s that pressure coming from, the Koch brothers?

The mainstream media in this country might as well be the Democratic National Committee’s war room. If there is pressure, if there are television stories, it’s because Obama and his party want them. He’s not upset Republicans are responding; he just doesn’t like how they’re doing it. He thought they’d cave by now.

Obama would love to reopen the national monuments?

The only reason he mentioned national monuments at all is because of his administration’s disastrous decision to turn the World War II memorial in D.C. into some kind of faux Tiananmen Square – apparently thinking the media attention to old guys in wheelchairs and baseball caps being locked out of their own memorial would make the Republicans look bad.  (And where did he get that idea?)

Obama wants money flowing to small businesses?

There’s not a small business in this country – outside of some “green” scamsters that know a good thing when they see it – that considers this administration or its minions friendly to the job creators that make the economy work. This is the “you didn’t build that” guy, remember?

The government doesn’t get to pick and choose which programs it implements or laws it enforces?

That was the real howler.

Obama has pretty much done nothing but pick and choose what laws it wants to enforce – it “defers” action on illegal immigrants; it doesn’t defend the Defense of Marriage Act; it doesn’t call an Egyptian “coup” a “coup”; it delays its own Obamacare employer mandate for a year to get by the next congressional elections.

But who you gonna believe, the president or your own lying eyes?
