New group hits Sharpton, targets MSNBC advertisers

al-sharptonTruthRevolt, a brainchild of Breitbart News’ editor-at-large Ben Shapiro, is a new project launched by the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Its purpose? — to reveal “leftists in the media,” and its first target is the Rev. Al Sharpton and his MSNBC show “PoliticsNation.”

The Freedom Center announced TruthRevolt’s inauguration Monday, and described Sharpton as a “race-baiting demagogue” who helped “gin up racial hatred against three innocent Duke lacrosse players, and who helped turn Trayvon Martin into a martyr and George Zimmerman into the target of race-baiting vigilantes,” according to the group’s announcement.

TruthRevolt will be action oriented, concentrating on investigative journalism and impacting the profits of the leftwing media. In the case of Sharpton, they’re asking that everyone tell his advertisers to stop supporting PoliticsNation. According to The Daily Beast:

The first Sharpton sponsor the group is targeting is Ritz Crackers, owned by Chicago-based Mondelez International. Shapiro said Truth Revolt chose Mondelez because it bills itself as a “family-friendly company” and because it was one of the few advertisers to respond to the group’s inquiries about why it supports the Sharpton show.

As part of its response, Mondelez International said in a statement to Truth Revolt: “At Mondelez International we demonstrate our commitment to responsible corporate citizenship by participating in programs that best serve a wide range of local communities and their interests and needs. We extend our responsibility to the sponsorship of tasteful, believable television programming and we avoid sponsorship of programs that would be unacceptable in terms of generally accepted social or community standards.”

The website makes it easy, beginning by signing a petition.

“Sharpton shapes the public narrative every day—a narrative in which whites are always guilty, and in which racist America always require correction by the federal government,” explained Shapiro. “And he inspires others in the liberal media to do likewise to spread similar venom. That is why Truth Revolt was created – to expose their hypocrisy and malice, and stimulate a popular revolt against them.”

Sharpton is but the first of many. According to the David Horowitz Freedom Center:

TruthRevolt will focus on high-profile network figures like George Stephanopoulos (ABC News) and David Gregory (NBC News) who never disclose their leftist commitments; cable hosts who have been granted credibility despite their commitment to partisan agendas including John King (CNN), Candy Crowley (CNN), Piers Morgan (CNN), Anderson Cooper (CNN), Chris Matthews (MSNBC), Rachel Maddow (MSNBC), Joe Scarborough (MSNBC) and Mika Brzezinski (MSNBC); institutional leftist outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post; and the most effective messengers of the left in the media, the powerful media figures at Comedy Central, including Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. is meant to be a foil to Media Matters.

“The far left site Media Matters,  run by self-confessed liar David Brock, has achieved enormous success by using the power of astroturfed boycotts and campaigns against conservative media figures, targeting their funders and advertisers,” commented Freedom Center Chairman David Horowitz.

“TruthRevolt will fight fire with fire, working to make advertisers and funders aware of the malicious propaganda they sponsor and create.”
