It’s been 11-and-a-half years since Greta Van Susteren moved from CNN to Fox News, and remarkably, her show has consistently been No. 1 in the 10 p.m. time slot ever since.

Now, loyal viewers are set to tune in to “On the Record” when it premieres at its new time, 7 p.m., on Monday. Van Susteren said she’s ready, telling Politico: “I’m looking forward to it. But I’m not coming in with a sense of arrogance or overconfidence. I’m coming in with a sense of adventure.”

And, apparently, she is relieved to start eating a healthier diet and at a normal dinnertime.

She told Politico:

I’m no longer going to eat my dinner at my desk out of a paper bag or cardboard box with plastic utensils. I’m no longer going to get sick to my stomach late in the evening from going to the vending machine and getting two boxes of Dots, eating one, eating about two out of the next one and then throwing it away. Dots are so horrible. And I don’t know why I fall for them every time, maybe it’s the brightly colored box. But I’m off Dots forever. And ever.

Van Susteren angled for the 7 p.m. time slot. To her, it’s a “reward,” Politico reported. And one she’s earned.

“Seven p.m. was my choice — well, I should say I angled for it when I heard that Shep [Smith} was leaving it,” the 20-plus-year TV veteran said. “I mean, [Fox News Channel president Roger Ailes] gave me a long-term contract, he gave me a raise and he gave me the 7 p.m. You know, I’m not complaining. I’ve got a brand-new studio, all my own — I see this as a reward for 11½ years No. 1 at 10.”

Van Susteren acknowledged that it takes about “six months to figure out a new show,” and she and her staff will use that time “figuring out exactly what works and doesn’t in the early evening,” according to Politico.

She took a moment to thank her loyal viewers for making her show the success it’s been over all the years.

“I’m enormously grateful, and more than anything else, I love the viewers,” she said. “They get all the credit; my thank you goes out to them.”

Van Susteren posted this on her Gretawire blog:

As we leave the 10pm slot for our new 7pm, if there were a way I could give each of you the #1 blue ribbon, I would  — YOU DESERVE IT.   YOU EARNED IT!   A cable news show simply doesn’t get to be #1…and stay #1…and for 11 1/2 years…without YOU, the LOYAL VIEWERS.

You are the most important part of our giant success — you did it!

She told Politico that Sean Hannity, who takes over the 10 p.m. time slot, doesn’t need any advice, but suggested: “Maybe coffee. Lots of coffee.”
