Ann Romney: We would not be in shutdown if Mitt were president

Ann Romney, wife of former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, said that had her husband won the election in November, there would be no federal government shutdown.

Romney appeared on Fox and Friends Wednesday to promote her new book, “The Romney Family Table: Sharing Home-Cooked Recipes and Favorite Traditions,” when the subject of the impasse between the GOP and the Democratic Senate and White House came up.

“Well, it’s frustrating. It’s frustrating for me that a lot of Americans never got to see Mitt for the real candidate that he was,” she said “There’s so much vilifying that goes on in a campaign. You know that’s going to come, but for me at the end of the day, if people had honestly known he was the most capable candidate, that he would have made a difference, he would have stopped Obamacare.”

The GOP-controlled House has sent three continuing resolution bills to the Senate, with each including provisions that dealing with the Affordable Care Act. The first defunded Obamacare altogether, the second would have delayed the individual mandate’s implementation for one year and the third deleted the House, Senate and White House exemptions.

All were rejected out-of-hand with no counter-offer.

On Thursday night, House and Senate leaders of both parties were invited to the White House, purportedly to iron out differences. Instead, the GOP was told that the White House wouldn’t compromise.

Just before the clip ends, Fox and Friends co-host Steve Doocy remarked that many things predicted by Mitt Romney have actually come to pass.
