As conservatives continue to be inspired by the lionhearted effort by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who spoke from the floor of the Senate for over 20 hours in opposition to funding Obamacare, fellow Republican U.S. Rep. Peter King, from New York, said “he’s a fraud.”
“My sound bite is to say he’s a fraud,” King said on Tuesday while speaking to the New York Times.
The “old-school” Republican explained to the Times precisely what he thought of the Cruz tactic, saying: “It is just a form of governmental terrorism.”
King said about two-thirds of the Republicans in the House agree with him, the Times reported. “A lot of them are intimidated by the Ted Cruz wing,” he added.
The Ted Cruz wing being the “far right,” according to the political class.
Or the tea party wing, as the left labels it.
“There were robocalls and efforts in districts throughout the country during August against Republicans, telling them why they had to support defunding Obamacare,” King said.
“What do you accomplish?” he asked. “You build up this mailing list for Cruz, and a fund-raising list. And you also are going to generate primaries against people who I would consider to be good Republicans, pretty solid conservative Republicans.”
King is supposedly considering a run for president in 2016 and Cruz would present a formidable opponent, should the freshman senator heed the calls from many on the right to enter the race.
